Happy Halloween People!

This year my lovely daughter has been invited to 2 Halloween Parties so its going to be an action packed sugar filled weekend.

To get into the spirit, we have tried our hand at carving a pumpkin. Something that I felt a little nervous about. I've grown quite fond of my fingers over the years and don't really want to lose any.

After finding the right Pumpkin, and then searching the Internet for a suitable picture to carve, we decided on a great Cat picture, that looks like an "Evil Nu Nu" as Rose would say. For those of you that are not familiar with Nu Nu... she is our much loved Chihuahua. And I have to agree, the cat does look a lot like Nu Nu.

Here's a picture of our pumpkin... we are pretty happy with the end result.

Now I just need to get cracking on a Halloween outfit. Miss Rose has requested a Twiggy outfit. What is a Twiggy outfit I hear you say? I have been informed by Miss Rose that its the female character from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds". I assure you she has not watched the movie, but she still insists on having Black Birds in her hair and scratches all over her face. This should be fun.

If you haven't heard from me in a while, its because I have been busy getting ready for the opening of the Ipswich Antique Centre, where I have decided to lease some space and try my hand at selling antiques. I'm always buying display pieces for Peg & Kate and with plenty of interest in the school desks and little bits and pieces I find,

Ive decided it cant hurt to give it a burl.

Lots of very creative ideas, although I'm going to give the prize for most creative use of the space to LittleCrissy, here are LittleCrissys ideas for the space;

I'm thinking a new dance hall a la the original Cloudland that was so cruelly erased in the middle of the night.
There shall be a live croon-worthy swoon-worthy band, the ladies will wear deliciously pretty vintage dresses and carry fans to cool themselves on sticky summer nights, and the guys will be gentlemen - no fluoro, no muscle tops, no arrogance.
Tea and dainty cakes will, of course, be served, and all will have a jolly good time dancing until the wee hours.

Retailer of the Month! Woooo Hoooo!

This evening I am very surprised to learn that I have won "Retailer of the Month" for last

months Boutique Market Portside.

For those of us heading to the markets on the weekend to sell our wares, its very rewarding to hear when someone likes what we are doing.

Its a huge effort to pack the car, unpack and set up shop at the markets only to have to pack up again at the end of the day. It's hard work! I'm lucky to have a supportive husband to help me at both ends, but it can still be exhausting.

Anyway, I have won 2 tickets to see a movie at the Dendy Cinema's Portside. My husband and I are going to see Date Night. I can't wait. Thank you to Leasl and Rachael who do a fabulous job organising the Boutique Market every month. I look forward to many more in the coming months.

Keep checking the blog during the week as I have some news to break, but I think I may need to tease you a little with images for a while first before I spill the beans. There may even be a giveaway in it. I will iron out the details and let you know tomorrow.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Why not head out to Queens Park, Ipswich for Jazz, Wine and Blues.

The Festival forms part of the Ipswich Festival 2010, and starts

from 1pm Saturday going till late.

If you haven't already checked out Queens Park then you may very well have

missed out on one of the Great South East's best parks.

Bring the kids and a picnic blanket and enjoy some good old fashioned fun in Ipswich.

Queens Park, has a fabulous new cafe, so if you haven't time to pack a picnic lunch then grab

a bite to eat on the verandah, taking in views of the park.

Two words "Flying Fox". Very popular with the kids and the adults. Once you have had your fill of the Flying Fox, then take a walk over to the Animal Park. For a gold coin donation you can stroll through the animal park and see all sorts of local native animals. Kids can even get hands on with the baby farm animals in the petting zoo.

If you are after something a little more tranquil and reflective then the Japanese Gardens are

for you. Once you are calm and centred, then head back over the the main park and sit back and relax to your favourite jazz and blues tunes..... It doesn't get any cooler than this. If you are looking for some sophisticated deli treats, then its worth popping into "Fedup" on the corner of Limestone St and Thorn St, a short stroll from the Jazz and Blues Festival.

Just another reason why Peg & Kate call Ipswich home.

It's oh so nice to get feedback from your customers, and when the feedback is positive it's inspiring.

Wendy your note gave me a real boost, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Wendy purchased a Pencil Roll for her daughter over the Christmas break at the Boutique Markets. She tells me it has been a real success. It makes me so happy to think that I am giving others the same joy that I gave my daughter when I made her first Pencil Roll and introduced her to Lyra Pencils.

So this morning I was inspired to get sewing on something that will invite more of my Boutique Market customers to experience the Lyra difference. I'm not going to say too much, only that you should call into my stall this Sunday and join me for some colouring in.

Warm Pikelets on a rainy Friday afternoon

Look out, Rose feels like cooking. And Pikelets are on the menu. Gluten Free Pikelets!

I love when Rose feels like working in the kitchen. There's nothing like passing down skills and recipes to your children. It always reminds me of cooking with my Mother and Grandmother.

Recipe is very simple, perfect for a 9 year old budding cook.

Gluten Free Self Raising Flour
Gluten Free Baking Powder
1 egg
Soy Milk
Caster Sugar
Butter for the pan

One thing my grandmother passed down was the ability to measure in "dashes", "dollops" and a "good helping of's". So for those hoping for measures, its about 2 cups of flour, 1/4 of a teaspoon of Baking Powder, 1/4 cup sugar, and enough milk to bring to a batter. Pikelets are very forgiving so don't stress over exact measures.

After seasoning the pan with a dollop of butter and a poor little sacrificial pikelet, your good to start pumping them out. Pikelets cook quickly, so they are perfect for keeping a 9 year old's attention, without becoming to involved.

Once you have cooked your pikelets both sides and set them aside to cool, your ready to top with my favourite, butter and strawberry jam. One coffee and you have the perfect snack for a rainy Friday afternoon. Bring on the weekend! Have a good weekend guys ;)

Is it wrong to want to buy groceries at the grocery store?

Just once I would like to enter the supermarket without feeling the weight of the world rests on
my shoulders. That's right, at the risk of sounding heartless, I'd like to get into the supermarket
pickup the dishwashing liquid that I have run out of and get on with the rest of my day.

Love the Panda's, Rain forests, starving children of the world, cancer support but every time
I go to the market there is a new charity waiting to pounce. I have given all I can this year. Seriously, I JUST WANT TO BUY SOME DISHWASHING DETERGENT!

I'm fully aware that there will be those of you who will be outraged by my comments, but it just
has to be said.

I have an iphone, although I have never downloaded any music from the itunes store for my ipod. Last night I thought I would have a look at what music is available and I found a brand new Eric Bibb album - Bookers Guitar released on the 23rd Feb 2010. Its that new its shiny!

So of course I had to have it, and Oh My Goodness it is great. I already have a favourite track. Anyone who follows Peg & Kate will love this one. "Turning Pages" If you love it as much as I do you can get it here.

Eric Bibb's Album "Diamond Days" has inspired me many a day to get working. And when ever I listen to it, I think of my own Grandma and all the lessons she gave me. Here is to Grandmas all over the world and all of the wonderful lessons they give us. Cheers!

OMG! What a Month!

So much has happened. What with being super busy with Christmas Orders, I have also fit in
some Christmas Cheer with the family, a short break on an island, a boutique market, and 1 puppy emergency.

Christmas has been wonderful. Its great to spend time with loved ones. We started Christmas day at home just the 5 of us. (ofcourse Im including my puppies in my family numbers!) To many presents to mention. One of my husbands all time favourites was his skate board. Custom built by Sam from Skatebiz in Albert St Brisbane.

Nat was skating before we started dating, so Ive never really seen him on a board before. I must say, hes not bad. Hes a bit of a hottie at the skate park. Granted hes the only one in my age bracket, but I find it cool to watch him do something he loves soooo much. Rose thinks he rocks also.

He came home from Bundamba skate park this morning announcing that he had dropped in on the skate bowl. He was stoked! I love seeing him this happy.
Rose loves the keyboard she got for christmas. She was spoilt this christmas with a million gifts, but the one thing her Dad mentioned we should get is her absolute favourite. He certainly knows his girl.

I was spoilt with gifts from the December Boutique Market. I have such a long wish list. And I
got everything on my list. Necklace from HeMaKa, Sexy PJ's from Mimi First, A great silicon mould for cupcakes in lady birds, bees and firefly shapes, a beautiful pendent, A fabulous handbag from Mags Bags, A dress from Mimi First, which came in handy on Stadbroke Island over swimmers.

Lunch time Christmas Day we packed the car and took off to Grandmas house for a family Christmas Dinner. As per usual, food was great, and we all had a great time watching the kids enjoy opening presents and playing with new gifts.

Nathan and Rose took a trip to Port Macquarie to visit with his mother and brother whilst I enjoyed some time with my Mum. Shopping, lunch out, Movies all the things you dont get to do when you are looking after a family and kids. This would have to have been my favourite time this christmas. Mum and I had such fun, and the evenings spent on the Sing Star with my sister and Mum where so much fun. If I can get a hold of the Tina Turner photos, I will post them for you, every one should be allowed to laugh that much.

2nd of January and we set off for Stradbroke Island for 5 nights. What a great spot. Now if you dont have children and you are looking for a romantic spot away, then DO NOT go to Couran Cove Resort. If however, you are looking for a great family holiday, with plenty of fun activities for the whole family then Couran Cove is the place for you. 40 mins off the coast of hope Island on the Gold Coast, and we were in heaven. For me, entertain my husband and daughter, give me a sunny position by the pool with wait staff, and keep the cocktails coming. I'm in heaven.

Nathan and Rose busied themselves with Kayaking, Snorkelling, Swimming, Riding, Bowls, the list goes on. We had a great holiday, we returned home well rested and ready to tackle a new year. That was until Sunday evening after the Boutique Market when we had to rush Austin to the Emergency Animal Hospital. We suspected a Tick, although it was another bout of spinal problems. Austin has always had a disc problem that flares when ever he gets to ruff with other dogs, or jumps out of the car at the wrong angle. Well this time he is confined to a box on pain killers and anti inflamatories and we are hoping he will return to his normal happy, joyful self.

Its been 4 days and he is improving slowly, but his back legs are still a bit wobbly. I love him so much and have spent the last 4 days watching over him, and just spoiling him silly. He is 14 and I know that eventually he will need to leave us, but I'm not ready yet. Anyway, with plenty of rest I am confident he will make a full recovery. Albeit a very expensive one.

So now you are all caught up on what's been keeping me busy. Hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas and New Year holidays. I wish you all the love I feel myself. I look forward to plenty more blogging this year.

Nothing like a bit of Hot Toffee in the Sunshine

What a lovely way to spend Saturday morning. Cup of coffee, sound of kids playing and a good read.

When I logged on this morning, I did the normal scan of the blogs I'm following, and found this lovely little read. I love Nicole and her designs from Hot Toffee, so it was nice to find out a little bit more about her at The Sunshine Studio.

Any one who knows me, knows I have a very long wish list of Hot Toffee designs, so a Hot Toffee giveaway is right up my alley. Check out the Sunshine Studio blog and don't forget to enter the competition for a chance to win your own Hot Toffee earrings.

One more thing I love about The Sunshine Studio, is the sound track that plays. I remember picking my daughter Rose up from Balmain Kids one afternoon, and in the car on the way home, she serenaded me with this lovely tune. She would have been about 3 and its a lovely memory to have.

I hinted earlier in the week that I was looking at a new retail outlet for Peg & Kate coming up to Christmas. Well I can finally tell you.

Peg & Kate are now proudly on display at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre, located;

I spent today putting together the display, and I feel really good about it. Here are a few images.

I found the Woolloongabba Antique Centre through a good friend who kindly took me on a shopping trip and I fell in love with it. To be honest, I've been waiting for Brisbane to have an Antique Centre like this for ever. And now we have one, and WOW!

Here are a few shots I took today, to give you a little taste of the wonderful antiques for sale.

Something I love about the Woolloongabba Antique Centre is it caters for all tastes and budgets. There is Vintage Clothing, Antique Furniture, Retro Homewares, Bric a Brac, Jewellery and so much more. Oh my goodness it is huge! You just have to check it out for yourself.

A few other things to note, there is a fabulous little cafe on site. You must try the Chicken and Pumpkin Toastedo. Yum! And the girls make a mean coffee.

The staff are helpful and friendly, and the music is groovy. Just my idea of a good day out with friends, your partner or just for a lone browse. You need to give yourself at least an hour to see everything, and don't be surprised if you need to do a couple of laps. There's just soooo much to see.

And here is the great thing, parking is free and there is plenty of it. And it is on site, so it is hassle free, and you wont have to lug your purchases far to get them to the car. Hiding them from your significant other, may be difficult though.

Definitely make some time to check out the Woolloongabba Antique Centre, I promise it will not disappoint. I heard somewhere that Woolloongabba is the new black, well I will certainly be taking all of my friends for lunch and a browse and soon.

Strangely calm.....

Things were riding very smoothly this morning getting ready for school. We were so organised that we even managed to step out to school 10min's early.

As I pulled the door closed, I realised our morning was about to change dramatically. Yep, I locked the keys in the house. That's house keys and car keys!

The universe decided to throw me a curve ball, and I was strangely calm. Normally there would be cuss words and a cranky disposition for the rest of the day.

But this morning, I just rolled with it. I instantly decided to swap my gym routine for a brisk walk to school. It was on this strangely calm walk I formulated my action plan. By 9:30am I was back in the house and ready to get on with the my day.

I think today, I learned a valuable lesson, well two lessons.

Always double check for keys before leaving the house. And remain calm, there is no need to over react, just stay calm.

Good help is hard to find!

Working from home and being my own boss, mean's I can be as politically incorrect as I like. That's why I can tell you I keep him around because he loves to sit on my lap while I work and he is oh so cute to look at. Otherwise he'd be out the door ;)

Super busy, getting ready for Market Day this Sunday at Portside Wharf Hamilton. I'm also getting some stock ready for a retail outlet in Brisbane. But more about that later in the week.

I need to save something to blog about. I'm trying really hard to meet my Blogtoberfest promise. I've already missed a couple of days over the weekend, so I really need to get focussed. Well deserved weekend away...

Its been a while, I think 12 months since my husband and I have both enjoyed a weekend down at my parents farm. I was so happy to spend some fun time with Nat, Rose and my family.

On the way down we stopped for lunch in Bangalow - fish and chips from a cafe is a guilty Friday afternoon pleasure.

Saturday morning we all took the puppies for a walk on Patches' beach - I can't believe that a 4 year old Chihuahua can out run a 34 year old man (they're both pretty fit - but I think the Chihuahua was holding back a little bit).

Then breakfast at the Eltham Pantry on Boat Harbour Rd, Eltham. I can't help but order Eggs Benedict with Atlantic Salmon, one of my all time favourite breakfast's when eating out.

Saturday afternoon, hanging around on the verandah with the family, then Chinese takeaway for dinner with Mum, Dad, my sisters family and mine was great. A long time over due. Hope to see a lot more of them soon.

What would we do without our families? The kookier the better!

When I need to get enthused to sew, I pop on my favourite tunes and before you know it I'm singing aloud, and sewing up a storm.

Ive been listening to this CD for such a long time now, it never fails to make me feel good. I come up with all sorts of business and product ideas when listening to it. Now I just need to put them into practice.

My trusty Brother, my Nana's old machine, and isn't she a beauty!

A few tools of the trade, I love this work case. It takes me from my sewing table to the markets with everything I need to create.

Lets see if we can turn this fabric into something useful.

Ahh! Lunch Bags, nothing like the feeling you get when you finish a job. I still love to look at them.

My poor husband never knows what to expect when he comes home from work. I must say it definitely works. It takes my mind off what ever is bugging me, and gives the house a fresh look.

Crackle Cookies, Sweet Food by Murdoch Books

How does that phrase go?

"The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

I don't know about that but, my man is certainly a lot happier when greeted with "Chocolate Crackle Cookies", or as he likes to call them "Chocolate Earthquake Cookies".

Again this recipe comes from my all time favourite cook book, Sweet Food from Murdoch Books. They do need to be refrigerated for a couple of hours prior to baking, or even over night. So you may need to plan ahead for these ones.

You will need;
125g butter
370g soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 eggs
60g dark chocolate, melted
80ml milk
340g plain flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
85g chopped pecan nuts
icing sugar

Line two baking trays with baking paper, Beat the butter and sugar and vanilla until light and creamy. Beat in the eggs. Stir in the melted chocolate and milk.

Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder, allspice and a pinch of salt into the batter and beat.
Stir through the Pecans, I didn't have any left, so I used Walnuts.

Refrigerate the mix for 3 hours or over night.

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Roll tablespoons of mixture into balls and then roll them in a bowl of icing sugar to coat.

Bake in an oven for 20 -25 Min's or until lightly brown. Careful not to over cook or they will lose the great white crackle coating.

Try not to eat too many in one sitting, or just eat them all, what ever takes your fancy.....Oh do remember to save some for the man of your dreams.

Super Easy Melting Moments

Try these super easy Lemon Melting Moments,
I whipped them up this morning to give to one of my
best girl friends for her birthday.

You will need;

250g butter
40g icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
185g self raising flour
60g custard powder

filling;
60g butter
60g icing sugar
zest of 1 lemon

Here goes........preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius,
line baking trays with baking paper.

Beat the butter and the icing sugar in a bowl till creamy,
then add the vanilla essence. Beat till combined, then add flour and
custard powder. Mix into a soft dough.
Spoon level tablespoons of the mixture onto a tray
and then flatten with a floured fork.

Bake for 15 to 20 Min's until golden. Remove and let cool.

Filling; Beat the butter, icing sugar and lemon zest until creamy,
spoon onto a cooled biscuit and then stick your second
biscuit to the other side.

Refrigerate until the icing has set and then serve.
Yum, I'm going to have one right now with a coffee.

Fabulously Fabricated!

We all know how busy Deb from Fabricated has been lately.
It is always difficult to balance family time with work,
especially when they are emotional times, and Deb has had
her fair share this last month.

So when she called me to say that Rose's special birthday bag was
ready, I was blown away at her commitment.
She is such a treasured soul.

We had arranged with Deb from Fabricated to take one of Rose's favourite pair of jeans
that no longer fit, and turn them into a beautiful keepsake.
A very functional keepsake.

And it is perfect, Rose opened it at her party with all of her
girlfriends present. And it was a huge hit.
Rose loves it, and her girlfriends will most likely be wanting
their very own Fabricated handbag.

Thank you Deb, your a dear friend, and I love your work.

Mini Eclair Birthday Cake

With Rose's birthday upon us, it was time to get baking.

We always talk about baking a birthday cake, but honestly
when was the last time you only had to bake one birthday cake.

For our family, there is the cake for the classroom friends,
the birthday cake for family served on the actual day of the
birthday. And then the piece de resistance for the birthday
party. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

So instead of cupcakes for the classroom friends, I decided
to make some mini eclairs and pile them together to make a
lusciously spectacular chocolate tower.

I had "needie" my little white dog helping in the kitchen. He was keeping
an eye on the temperature, as my oven has a tendency to go
all "furnace" on me without warning.
Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I suppose I should give the recipe, so it goes like this;

Mini Eclairs
60g unsalted butter, chopped
125g plain flour, sifted
4 eggs beaten
300mls whipping cream
1 tablespoon icing sugar sifted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
50g dark chocolate, melted

(recipe found in my favourite cake cookbook,
Sweet Food by Murdock Books .
I found it in Freedom although I have seen it
in most good kitchen stores.)

Oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius.
Line baking trays with baking paper, I found Alfoil was just
as good with some flour dusted to stop sticking.

Bring butter and water to boil over stove top, remove from heat
and beat in flour with a wooden spoon till smooth. I used a metal
spoon, so sue me.... they still turned out fine.

Return to heat and beat for 2 mins until the mixture forms a ball.
Remove from the heat and transfer to your mixing bowl.
Leave to cool for 5 mins.

Add the eggs a little at a time. Make sure you beat well. I used
the electric beaters for this part.

Spoon into a piping bag, or a zip lock sandwich bag and cut a
little hole in the corner of the bag. Works just fine for this job.

Pipe the mixture onto your trays, the recipe calls for 6cms long,
although you could make them shorter or longer.

Cook for 10 mins on 200 degrees Celsius, then reduce to
180 degrees Celsius and cook for 10mins or until golden.

Remove from the oven, and poke a whole in the side of each
eclair. You need to take the fluffy stuff from inside the
eclair out. Can get a little tricky here.

Return the eclairs to the oven for another 2 -3 mins. Remove and then cool on
a rack.

Whip Cream, Icing Sugar and Vanilla until thick. Pipe into the eclairs
through the whole you made when baking them.
Once each eclair is filled with cream, dip into your melted
chocolate and leave to set.

I placed mine into a pile whilst they were still sticky so
they would set together.

Ive been asked if I used the packet mix to make the eclair batter,
I can't see any point. They are pretty straight forward,
Butter, Water, Flour & Eggs.

I like to know that my flour is organic, australian
grown etc..... so its nice to make from scratch.
Also you get bragging rights...... Happy Baking.

If you weren't at the Metropole Hotel for Val Haala's 1st Gala Fashion Parade,
then I'm assuming you were out of town.

On an outting to Wollongabba to check out a new antique store,
I called into Absolutely Fabulous - 39 Logan Rd Wollongabba,
and met the wonderfully talented Kim Dawson.

Kim immediately caught my attention wearing a most delightful
black swooshy skirt, which started our conversation.

It was here that I learned of Kim Dawson's label "Skirts Like These".

The images above are from Kim's most recent collection.
After chatting with Kim, I learned that the skirts are made in a wrap
around style, so that one size fits all.

Each of Kims handmade skirts are considered wearable art.
Kim believes if a particular creation speaks to you,
size should not come between you and your skirt.

I agree, there is nothing worse than finding the perfect skirt and then
not being able to get it in your size.

I have my eye on a few of Kim's creations, and look forward to
attending her next exhibition of wearable art.

I'm so excited, I have booked Rose into the children's workshop,

Annual Book Week Parade

The day was finally here, all of our hard work had
paid off. Rose and her friends looked fabulous in the Book Week Parade.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 looked brilliant!

I don't think there was a children's book missing from
the line up of characters. It is fabulous to see the effort that
all the parents and students go to.

To see the kids having a great day, in the name
of literacy, was priceless!

Book week is upon us, and it's time to get creative.

For those of you that recognise the entertaining words of Darrel & Sally Odgers, you
would know exactly who Ralf Boxer is. Ralf is the 'pawfully small chihuahua' from
the novel "Jack Russell Dog Detective's Fowl Play"

For those of you that know my daughter Rose, you will understand
her choice in character. This year, Rose has been old enough to make
a real contribution to the making of the outfit.

Let me tell you, paper mache is messy. But introduce the likes of an eight year
old, and it gives new meaning to the word "Mess".

All that said, once the alien like head had hardened, it was my turn.
A little bit of fake fur and a hot glue gun and Im happy.

We are reusing the body of "Fantastic Mr Fox" from book week 2007. So
all is done. You will have to wait for Mondays post to see the end result. Here is a little taste
though.

Introducing my best buddy Miss Rose.

Miss Rose is very involved in the Peg & Kate label. And is always

She is a huge help to me at the Markets. I don't know how
I would manage without her.

she was naturally very excited.

Miss Rose is going to be talking about something that all kids love.

Birthday Invitations

With a Ekka School Holiday, I needed to find an activity that
would keep my daughter busy, and also tick off one of the many items
on my personal to do list.

So, as Rose will be celebrating her 9th birthday very soon. What better
than to start organising her party.

First up, what are we doing?

This shouldn't be to hard to organise although, I have created a problem
for myself. For those who know me, you will know that when it comes to organising
birthday parties, dinner parties, or anything else of the sort. I tend to go a little over board.
I just love it.

When it comes to a child's birthday party, if you have set the bar incredibly high for the
first 8 yrs of life, where is there to go.

My sister will often joke with me, asking if the wiggles have been booked.....etc.
She thinks its hilarious the lengths I go to.

Well this year, I've decided to go smaller than usual. I figure, we will mix it up a little with a traditional sleep over party.

A little birthday party history, to set the scene.

1st Birthday - Blues Clues Theme. Filled a room with Blue and Magenta Helium Balloons, Decorated the walls with Blue Paw Prints. The Room Filled with Balloons and Streamers had a Kids work table with a myriad of Blues Clues Themed colouring activities, we had face painting, a crazy clown, about 50 guests, and the ultimate Blues Clues cake. That was the source of many phone calls a day later, wondering if its normal for a 1 year olds poo to be bright green. Apparently after digestion blue food colouring turns a bright shade of green. OOOPS!

2nd Birthday - Kindi Farm hits the suburbs. We invited all of Roses Preschool friends and my
entire family to a Farm Themed Party. With the Kindi Farm as the main entertainment. Rose was wearing a groovy red gingham shirt with jeans and a straw cowgirl hat. I remember it as if it were yesterday. I hired hay bails and used them as seating around our postage stamp sized suburban back yard. In the middle of the yard was the Kindi Farm with Ducks, Chickens, Piglets, Goats, Calves, it was great. I went over the top making stick on name tags for everyone in animal shapes, all hand drawn you see. I remember the night before the party getting into a huge argument with my partner, because I wanted to set up the party tables the night before. This making perfect sense to me as I had soooooo much to do the next day. I ended up moving all the furniture myself and setting everything up until, I had guilted my husband into helping me. I remember Rose was very quiet at the party. She had a great time, but It must have been so over whelming for a 2 year old.

The cake was a Rocking Horse cake, chocolate. At this stage I will point out that I have always ordered the cake, from a cake shop. I was working full time, and figured I could only manage so much. A smart move I feel. Although as my mother and sister have always prided themselves on making their cakes, I cop a bit of flack for this.

3rd Birthday - Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatters Tea Party.

Ok for this one, I will need to explain that my husband and I were both working full time, and as you do when you are working full time, you like to give your kids the world. With that said,

We got up early on Rose's birthday and flew from Sydney to the Gold Coast to go to Dream World for the day. We had a wonderful time. Rose was so excited to fly on a plane, she had flown before, but as a baby, so she was very excited to fly to Dream World. We stayed overnight
at a resort on the Gold Coast, and the next day we drove from the Gold Coast to Tregeagle in Northern NSW.

Okay, I can hear you asking were is the Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatters Tea Party? Well if flying to Dream World wasn't enough for a 3 year old, she was taken to my Parents farm and surprised with a Mad Hatters Tea Party.

I was dressed as the Mad Hatter, My husband as Tweedle Dumb, my father Tweedle Dee, my Mother as the White Rabbit, and my sister as the Queen of Hearts. We had a Door Mouse, and Great Grandparents dressed as King and Queen of Wonderland. Rose was Alice and had the most magnificent handmade Alice in Wonderland outfit you have ever seen.

At this point I have to say, that all the preparation was made by my Mother and Sister. They set the Tea Party, hired the outfits, and made everything perfect. And the setting well I
will let the pictures speak for them selves. Oh and the cake was the White Rabbit covered in coconut, my mother and sister took great pride in making it. I still hear about it today.

One extra thing, Rose got the dream present her own horse "Celeste" every little girls dream.

4th Birthday Party - Dream World with a surprise visitor. My husband and I had just returned from a visit to Italy. Rose had been on holiday with Granma and Poppy. We surprised her with her best friend from Sydney Cheyne. The morning of her birthday we drove to Dream World and had a wonderful day. The cake I decided to make myself. First time ever. It was a dreaming pony with a magnificent mane, that I found online. I was very proud of this cake.

I can hear you all saying, enough.....please.....So your crazy and your kid is ultra spoilt....Well it gets worse.

5th Birthday Party - Princess Shahara Party. I must start by saying, this is my first year of being a stay at home mother and I have moved to a country town in Queensland. We don't know to many people, and I'm a little obsessed with being the perfect mother and wife.

We invite all of the girls in Rose's Preschool Class. This is about 14 kids. I decide to make them all Harem Outfits, little purple and pink harem pants, and tops, with scarves from chiffon, equip with bells. I also make party bags from the left over fabric that double as library bags, I fill them with hand made colouring books, pencils, a myriad of fun gifts from Abracadabra in Bangalow.

On the day, my mother and sister come to the party to help serve food and decorate. We have filled the down stairs party room with helium balloons in purple and pink, created the most amazing birthday table, with sparkling star confetti and to top it all of the children are amused by the fabulous Princess Sharhara. She teaches the girls how to dance and whaile like a middle eastern princess. It was fabulous. I must say, even though I recognise I went over the top making 14 outfits, it was a beautiful sight, seeing the girls arrive and realise that they
all had equally beautiful outfits. And that they could take them home as a party favour, it was just beautiful.

I made this cake. It was a layered concoction, with plenty of lollies and icing sugar. Ooh, the other over, the top thing we did, was fly Rose's best friend from Sydney in to join in the party.
Turned out to be not such a great idea, as she was incredibly shy on the day and didn't want to take part in the party.

Oh well we live and learn.

6th Birthday Party - The Fairy Party set in a Local Vineyard. Rose is at a new school and shares her birthday with another girl, so we decide to have a joint party. But I'm still a little over the top and decide to have a fancy dress party on the grounds of a local vineyard. With Wine Tasting and local treats for the adults whilst the children are entertained by a local Fairy Lady.

What a great party this was, and what great photos, as you can imagine. Having 6 year olds running down the isles of a vineyard made for some magical photos. We all had a great time including the kids. This year the cake was made by Rose's friend Alex's mother. And it was a fabulous Fairy castle.

7th Birthday Party - Outback Spectacular - This one not so much on the organising and a lot on the hip pocket. We decided to let Rose invite a small group of friends to join her to watch the Outback Spectacular Horse Show on the Gold Coast. One little surprise, they were picked up by a stretch limo, and enjoyed movies and soft drinks on the way to and from.

8th Birthday Party - Wicked stage show in Melbourne, This one was a combo, Rose and I both celebrated our birthdays together. We flew together as a family to Melbourne, had a day in Melbourne CBD shopping for theatre outfits and then that evening enjoyed the spectacular Wicked stage show. It was fabulous. Rose got to taste her first ever Coca Cola when she started crying at intermission. She was that tired that she just wanted to go back to the hotel room. We had paid for Silver Class tickets and were not going to miss out on the second act, so at intermission, my husband got me a champagne, and Rose her first Cola. Did the trick. She was happy to sit through the second half, and bouncing all the way down the street on our way back to our hotel room. The next day my husband and Rose spend the day at Luna Park at St Kilda and I browsed the markets. Pretty spectacular!

So this year, what could we possibly do to impress. Well, we have talked about it for some time now, and it seems that a normal birthday party is going to be all the rage this year. Its quite a novelty with Rose. So Yippee, we are taking a group of Roses friends to the movies and then coming home for a sleep over and then Pancakes for breakfast on the deck....

Today Rose and I got started on the invitations, and I was impressed with Roses ability to choose patterns that looked great, yet still individual to her personality.

So here is the beginning to my obsession that is the perfect birthday party.

We found the great paper from a local Scrap booking store, Stick n Giggle. Jody the
owner of the store was very helpful. Rose and I had loads of fun choosing the
papers. Ultimately it was Rose's decision, she did a great job on the colours.

Rose has chosen Red envelopes with a shimmering finish. She just had to have the birdy paper and chose a black leaf pattern for the back ground of the invites. As the paper was double sided with a lovely pattern on the reverse, we used the black leaf design to seal the envelopes. With Red, Pink and Clear Crystal brads to seal.

We will carry the theme through to the party bags and thank you notes, so will post the images on the blog closer to the party. Invitation list is currently at 15 for a sleep over. What am I thinking. EEEKKKK! This could be scary, not a lot of sleep I imagine.

When Rob from the QT contacted me to do a story on Peg & Kate I was over the moon. Then it dawned on me, they are coming to my home to do the photo shoot. Eek! I had "crap" (excuse the expression) everywhere!

So after a mad clean up, I dug out all of my stock that was packed in boxes from the launch of the Boutique Markets at Portside. And put together some displays.

I love this little desk. I picked it up from an auction in Bangalow. I think I paid $40 for it. But it makes a great homework station for my daughter.

After putting together some displays of Pencils and the sort, the guys from the QT were only interested in the human interest side of the story and took photos of me.... After much protest, they still wouldn't agree to air brush out the bags under my eyes... something about journalistic integrity. Ha!

I love messing about with my stock and taking shots, so as soon as the guys from the QT had left I started experimenting with some shots of my own. (dont get to excited, they are only on the iphone)

I think they look good. I am a little biased though.

I'm hopeless at decision making so here is another very similar photo. I like them both!

Anyway, Rob Lockyear was lovely, and so to were his colleagues. I look forward to
reading his story in the QT. Fingers crossed it is published online. Thanks Rob.

What a Launch!

Yesterday saw the launch of the Boutique Market at Portside. And what a Launch!

A huge thanks goes out for the efforts from our fabulous Boutique Markets Team, Racheal, Leisl, Kerry, Nicole and Taryn. With a fabulous location, talented stall holders and the great crowd at Hamilton the Boutique Markets Portside are set to be the next hottest thing in Brissie.

The gods where smiling on us with beautiful weather.
And as they say, if you build it they will come! And so they did. A tremendous turn out.

I can't wait for the next Boutique Market at Portside.
To be held on the second Sunday of the month,

Sunday 12th July from 8am to 1pm.

With the very popular Coffee and Chocolate Festival running in conjunction with the
Boutique Market, it’s going to be a great day.

So bring your friends, and your spending money, and get in early as many of the stall holders had sold out by lunch time.

If you like cupcakes, get in early or you will miss out. And if you love the fabulous styling’s of Ookee Mee you better get in quick. With 2 lonely skirts left hanging at the end of the day, Lyn will be a very busy girl this month replenishing stock.

Our house has been full of excitement and nerves this week.

My baby is going on her first school camp.

I'm so excited for her, but as all you mum's will know with

the excitement comes the nerves.

Oh, I'm not talking about Rosies nerves. That's right.

What about the Mum's in this situation?

I'm not alone. My girlfriends are all faced with the same stresses.

What if they get home sick, what if they don't have a good time,
oh my goodness, what if? The list goes on.

I remember both of my school camps with fond memories,

so why am I so worried about my baby going away? It's crazy.

I should be excited that my husband and I will finally get some time together,
but all I can think about are the worst case scenarios,
that may unfold for my precious little girl.

I know Rosie is also nervous. She has been like Jekyll and Hyde

all week. She is worried about taking medicine, and not being

like everyone else. She's not sure if her friends of so many years

will like her on camp. Go figure!

And the Flying Fox, sure it's fun, but what if she gets scared.

I listen to the wise words I give Rose to explain how wonderful

this experience will be, and how she will look back on it one day

with the same fond memories that I do about my school camps.

But still, I can't help being nervous.

My friends and I have planned a support coffee meeting at a
local coffee house, immediately after drop off.

What a mess we will all be. Add to our nerves,

the caffeine and who knows what will happen.

My favourite place to procrastinate.....

So here goes.

These are in no particular order. (or all hell will break loose at home)

I Love Memorable Moments, and looking back on photos. I love this photo, it brings a tear to my eye. She is so gorgeous, and was so happy to hold that tiny frog. Simple things that stay in our memories for ever.

I love a good Hat Parade, Christmas, Easter I don't mind, I just love making them. And Rose looks fabulous in a hat.

I have been informed by my lovely sister that you actually need to let your child take part in the making of the hat to be considered for a prize. As such we have never won anything....

Rose does have fun picking out the decorations, little chicks, and collecting sticks from the yard to make nests.... but I admit, its
to much fun creating a master piece.

I admit Im a bit of a control freak.....Ok a lot!

I love Organising Fabulous Birthday Parties for my little cherub.

I have been acused of going over board, ok....making individual belly dancing outfits for 20 children, is a little mad, but the photos make it all worth while. Not to mention that all the kids looked equally fabulous and had a wonderful time.

Fairys on the Vineyard, was a favourite. Everyone had a wonderful time, with entertainment for the little fairies and a selection of wine
and cheese from Iron Bark Ridge Vineyard at Purga for the parents.

We've done Blues Clues, Kindi Farm, Even a limo to the Gold Coast to see Outback Spectacular. This one was great and the kids had the best time. We finished with a sleep over and Pancake Birthday Cake for breakfast the next morning. Multi Coloured.... Of Course!

One of my all time favourites was an Alice in Wonderland tea party, although I didn't have to organise that one, as my sister and mother kindly did the catering, hired outfits... but thats another blog altogether.

I especially love Italian Food......mmmmmmmm. Preferably in Italy, with good wine, and good company.

This photo was taken on my birthday a couple of years ago, in Spoleto, Tuscany.

The dish is a baked polenta, and it was delicious.

I love and feel very priviledged to work from home. It gives me the luxury of being involved in all of my daughters school activities. Who would miss this?

My loving husband and daughter. They make life fun, and meaningful.

I adore my lovely Austin and Chi Chi, they are gorgeous,
and give me so much love.

I melt when I look at them. I love them soooo much.

(even when they mess in the hall)

Move over Crabtree & Evelyn, and make room for Red Bamboo!

I'm a huge fan of Crabtree & Evelyn. My fragrance is "Freesia", even
though it has been discontinued. (much to my outrage).

At the last Crabtree & Evelyn sale I stocked up on "Freesia" perfume, bath and shower gel, glycerin soap, body lotion....the list goes on, I'm sure you get the picture. I love it.

It will always take me back to Venice and a wonderfully romantic holiday my husband and I shared together.

But its time for Crabtree to move over and make room for my new favourite soap.

Red Bamboo make a gorgeous range of handmade soaps.
So when my husband told me he loved anything cinnamon,
I was on the phone to Annie from Red Bamboo to see what she has.

And here it is.

It arrived in a parcel from Tasmania today.
I've never been so excited. (Well maybe once or twice)

I have ordered my Red Bamboo soap by the 1 kilo log,
and it just looks divine.

It has a special place in the fridge until I'm ready to use each bar.
This helps to preserve the fragrance. I can't tell you enough, how great it smells.

Ok, yes it smells just as good as it looks. So fresh and full of cinnamon.

Rockton takes us back in time.....

What a beautiful setting for a market, and what a great way to celebrate Q150, in the

gardens of the timeless "Rockton".

After an evening of elegance held the previous night and lots of nervous anticipation for those involved in organising the events, we could all enjoy the beautiful sunshine and the talent
that our many stall holders put on display.

As promised the QLD Costumers Guild was in fine form.
Modeling a selection of beautiful dresses from a time when
Rockton was just settling into its footings.

With lots of stalls, there were even activities for the kids.
Nothing like spending a little time colouring in with the children.

Above our mayor Paul Pisasales can be seen enjoying some time with
Makayla Smart and friends at the Peg & Kate colouring table.
Doesn't he do a wonderful job nursing that baby doll.

Outfits worn by the QLD Costumers Guild are all handmade by the ladies wearing them. Now that's some serious sewing. Stunning!

And any Queensland day out wouldn't be complete without some scrumptious lamingtons. I certainly made sure I purchased my supply. Although sadly they didnt last long enough to see me through my second cuppa.

Thank you to the many women from the Ipswich Girls Grammar School Old Girls Association for your efforts. And thank you to Angela and Wybe Geertsma for opening their home. Hopefully this will be an annual event. I know I'll be there.

Best Wishes to all that read our Peg & Kate blog. I have enjoyed a lovely day with the family and hope you have all had a wonderful day also. Not to much Chocolate.

Thank you to the story posted earlier this week "Simple Easter Ideas" that gave my daughter and I hours of fun making Easter decorations.

As you can see they look great guarding the Chocolate Friands I made earlier today. Although I don't know how successfull they will be warding off the family. I give them a day tops....

The recipe for the Friands can be found at www.cuisine.com.au. After a recent visit to Deb Moore our local Naturopath we have been looking for some Gluten Free recipes high in magnesium. I have substituted the flour in these Friands for Rice Flour, and they have turned out just as good as they would with Wheat Flour. Yippee. And Best of all my daughter Rose loves them.

"Rockton"

If you love historic homes, then you will love "Rockton". The owners Wybe and Angela Geertsma have kindly open the doors to their home to host "An Evening of Elegance". An annual event organised by the Ipswich Girls Grammar Old Girls Association.

Sample some local wines, and enjoy the selection of cheese on offer. There will be a fashion parade, showcasing some of our local talent. Lyn from Ookee will be showing some of her beautiful designs, along with some other well known labels...

The night is an opening for the Rockton Market. To be held the following day in the gardens of "Rockton." Enjoy local Arts, Crafts, Jewellery, Candles, Calligraphy, Bric-a-Brac and be transported back in time, with the Australian Costumers Guild. In keeping with the Q150 celebrations their will be a display of 19 Century costumes worn by ladies from the Australian Costumers Guild.

Wybe and Angela will be offering guided tours of "Rockton" an absolute must, as I hear there was once a ghost residing in "Rockton". Or was that just a rumour. You will have to ask Angela all about it.

Learn to Ride

Children spend more and more time playing computer games, and less time outdoors working with peers in a team enviroment. Its time to get out doors. And have some fun.

I was touched today when I witnessed a "Teen" mentoring a fellow team member at today's Chamber's Flat Pony Show.

Today was a very nerve racking and exciting day, as my daughter Rose, a reserve member of the Shantaylah Lodge Showteam was to ride out in an open paddock without a lead line attached. For those of you that are not fluent in horse jargon, (like me) this is a significant event, as young riders get ready to compete in riding events, they start off with an adult running along side the horse to ensure they are in no danger. When young riders are ready, they enter an "Open Rider Class" where they no longer have the assistance of an adult running along side the horse.

This was my daughters big day, to enter the arena without assistance, and both of us where equally nervous. My daughter was overwhelmed by the experience as there where many other riders in this event with her. They ranged in age and experience. Rose did a wonderful job for her first attempt, although as many 8 year olds do, she was upset at not coming a place.

Whilst I was explaining to my daughter,

"it is not about getting a place or ribbon,"

we where approached by Lucy a fellow member of the Show Team.

Lucy had also competed in the event. Lucy is in her teens, and has been riding a lot longer than Rose. She had watched Rose ride and had recieved the 1st place ribbon for her efforts in the event. When she noticed that Rose was upset, she approached Rose and told her of the wonderful effort she had seen Rose display. She then offered Rose her 1st place ribbon. Rose was very happy and accepted the Ribbon as any 8 year old girl would. I was moved to tears. It is not often that you see such compasion, empathy and team work.

It was a lovely moment, and I'm sure my daughter will remember this lovely gesture for years to come. She may even display the same qualities when she is a more experienced rider.

Riding in a Show Team takes team work, dedication, discipline and passion. After today I have no doubt that Rose will learn so much as a member of a Show Team. What child doesn't dream of riding a horse, and of one day, owning his or her own pony.

To see Rose grow and form relationships with peers of all ages is heart warming.

Well, Hello from Peg & Kate,

My name is Cathy Dearinger and I have been making Peg and Kate style Pencil Rolls for friends and family for a while now.

Just recently my girlfriends suggested they were too good to give away. It wasn't until I grew frustrated at not being able to identify my daughter's desk in the classroom that I thought about making a chairbag to match. On a weekend away at my parent's farm, I started to seriously think about what I really wanted to create - and came up with products that appeal to children and parents that solve a number of hassles throughout the school year.

Picture this...it's the start of the school year and you're busy covering about a thousand school books with sticky plastic wrap. I can never cover without airbubbles. Why is it always the back of the books that are bubble free, leaving the front looking like a pug dog with bubbles and wrinkles everywhere - try following the instruction and you get even more bubbles - Ahhhh!

I can get a little carried away with co-ordinating my daughter's back to school essentials; I don't like to go with something I know everyone else will have. At times, I think I'm more excited about what colours to choose for book covers than my daughter. Fast forward yourself to January - you head into the big chain stores to pick out rolls of paper and there never seems like much to choose from (or you have to cover books in different colours). You buy rolls and rolls to cover the pile of books you know lay ahead of you - and then do it all again 12 months later (is that the definition of futility?). I only have one child and feel for those parents with 2 or 3 or more - goodness knows how you cope.

Another thing that bugs me.....watching my daughter rifle through her pencil case looking for a colour, or worse, tipping them all out and breaking pencil leads in the process and then not bothering to put them away again. How does the teacher cope? 25 children all looking for that just perfect colour - finding it needs sharpening - wasting time searching for the sharpener and then finding that the leads have broken and the pencil is now useless anyway. What about sending your child to school every year with an entire set of new pencils (felt tip pens, crayons, sharpener, ruler, eraser) only to find at the end of term they are all mostly missing. I'm certain there is a black market in lost pencils. My daughter calls the fairys that take her pencils 'Mr Take-It'. Apparently Mr Take-It lives in the bin - he grabs anything left on the classroom floor and returns it back to his 'lair'.

My daughter's classroom is ever changing. Why is it that whenever I'm in a hurry (like everyday I hear you say) the classroom has been rearranged and you can't find your child's desk. Am I the only Mum that has to continually interrupt the teacher just to find out where my child's desk is? I feel like I'm in the classroom more than my daughter sometimes - I just want to sneak in and out without being noticed.

I love my daughter's school, it is wonderful, but feel with the same 'standard issue' school uniforms, school shoes, school hat and school bags our children have no opportunity to express their own personality - why not have a range of class room essentials to get them excited about going to school.

As for now we are starting small and hopefully with your help Peg & Kate will grow to be as successfull as it is in my dreams...
